MCPTool reference

Tool reference

Every tool, prompt and limit of the Questify MCP server.

You rarely call tools by name: describe what you want, and the assistant picks the tool. This reference shows what is possible.

Quests, Adventures and Steps can be given by key (such as QST-12, PAY or QST-12-3) or by id. Each tool needs the access level shown, and your Questify permissions still apply.

questify_get_my_workReadYour work at a glance: your Quests, running battle, battles waiting for a time split, Council seats and unread notifications.

Change things

ToolAccessWhat it does
questify_create_stepWriteCreates a Step or a Trap. Assigned to you by default; can be left open for claiming or given to a Hero on the Quest.
questify_update_stepWriteEdits a Step’s summary, description, acceptance criteria, tags, effort, complexity or due date.
questify_transition_stepWriteMoves a Step along its workflow. If the move isn’t allowed, it lists the ones that are; adds a comment or link when the move needs one.
questify_assign_stepWriteClaims an open Step for you, assigns it to a Hero, or releases it.
questify_add_commentWriteComments on a Step, or in a Quest’s Council discussion.
questify_update_questWriteEdits a Quest’s name, description, difficulty, coins pool, deadline, tags or priority. Never its status.
questify_battle_timerWriteStarts, stops or checks your battle timer.
questify_allocate_timeWriteSplits a stopped battle across the Steps you hold. The minutes must add up exactly.

Files

ToolAccessWhat it does
questify_get_file_linkReadA download link for a Step attachment, a comment attachment or a Quest material.
questify_exportReadExports a work report (CSV, Excel or JSON) or the audit log (CSV) and returns a download link.
questify_upload_fileWriteAttaches a file to a Step, or uploads a Quest material.

Files never pass through the conversation: the assistant gives you a link instead. Download links expire after 5 minutes; ask again for a fresh one.

Everything else

Questify has many more operations than the tools above, such as a Quest’s timeline, adding Heroes or archiving a Quest. The assistant finds them by describing the goal:

ToolAccessWhat it does
questify_discoverReadFinds operations that match a goal. Lists only the ones your permissions allow.
questify_execute_readReadRuns a read operation found with discover.
questify_execute_writeWriteRuns a create or update operation found with discover.
questify_execute_destructiveDelete & adminRuns an archive, delete, remove or complete operation, or a Quest status change, only after you confirm.

Confirming destructive changes

Before a destructive change, Questify shows a preview of exactly what will happen. Depending on your app, it shows you a confirmation form, or the assistant shows you the preview and asks. Nothing happens until you agree, and a confirmation is valid for 2 minutes. Declining is final: the assistant has to start over.

Prompts

Ready-made workflows your app may offer, for example as slash commands:

PromptWhat it does
Daily standupDrafts your standup: what you did since yesterday, what you’re doing today, and blockers.
Plan a Quest’s StepsReads a Quest and proposes the Steps to create. Creates them only after you confirm.
Triage Traps (bugs)Reviews open Traps on one Quest or across your work, and suggests owners and next moves.

The server also offers a glossary of Questify terms (questify://guide/glossary) that assistants read to understand Adventures, Quests, Steps, Traps and the Council.

Limits

  • About 120 reads and 30 changes per minute. Past that, the assistant is asked to wait and retry.
  • Lists are paged; the assistant follows the pages it needs.
  • Text that people wrote in Questify, such as Step descriptions and comments, is marked as user content, so the assistant treats it as data and not as instructions.
