Traps

Log bugs as Traps and name the Step that caused them.

A Trap is a bug, logged as a Step. Unlike a normal Step, a Trap counts in the Quest’s bug ratio, and it can name the Step that caused it, so the bug is counted against the Hero responsible.

Raise a Trap

Click Raise a Trap

On the Step Workspace toolbar. It appears when at least one step type allows Traps.

Describe the bug

The same fields as a normal Step: summary, description, complexity, effort, assignment and due date.

Name the cause (optional)

In Caused by, pick the Step whose work introduced the bug. “The Hero who held the cause is held accountable for this Trap; leave it empty and the General can set it later.”

Click Raise Trap

Whether a Step is a Trap is fixed when it is created. A Trap cannot be turned into a normal Step, or the other way round. If you raised a Trap by mistake, ask an Admin to archive it and create a normal Step. Changing its step type keeps it a Trap, and only offers types that allow Traps.

Causes

  • A Trap can have several causes. Each must be a normal (non-Trap) Step of the same Quest.
  • The accountable Hero is whoever held the cause Step at the moment the link was made. Reassigning the cause later does not move the bug.
  • The General, the King or a Super Admin can Set cause, Change it, or Add another cause later from the Trap’s details.

How Traps are counted

Effect
Bug ratioEvery live Trap counts in the Quest’s bug ratio.
Bug governanceEach named cause counts one bug against the accountable Hero, which can reduce their XP. See Bug governance.
No causeCounts in the ratio but penalises nobody. Listed in Settings → Bug Governance → Traps without a cause.
Quest completionCompleting a Quest with Traps that have no cause shows a warning, but is not blocked.

Fixing a Trap is real work: the Hero who fixes it earns the Trap’s XP like any other Step.
