Work on a Step
Claim, move, and finish Steps.
Take ownership
| Action | Who | How |
|---|---|---|
| Claim | Any Hero on the Quest | On a Step that is Open for claim, click Claim. |
| Assign / Reassign | The Quest’s General, the King, or a Super Admin | In the Step details, next to Assigned Hero. |
| Give up Step / Release | The holder, or the General and King | Returns the Step to the claimable pool. |
A finished Step cannot be reassigned: “A done Step stays with the Hero who finished it.”
QA
Besides its Hero, a Step can have a QA tester who checks the work. The QA row sits under Assigned Hero in the Step details.
| Action | Who |
|---|---|
| Claim QA | A QA tester on the Quest, while the QA slot is free and the Step is not done. You cannot be QA on a Step you hold. |
| Give up QA | The tester holding the slot. |
| Release QA | Whoever directs the Quest’s work: the General, the King or a Super Admin. |
Move a Step
Each Step follows its type’s workflow. The buttons on the card, and next to Status in the Step details, show the moves available right now. Their labels come from the workflow, for example Start Development, Send to Review, Approve.
- The main button moves the Step to the next status. Other moves (such as Move to Done or into Blocked) are under More actions.
- You can also drag a card to another column when the move is allowed.
- Only the holder (or the General and King) can move a Step, and only while the Quest is running.
Moves that ask for input
Some statuses ask for a comment or a link when a Step arrives, for example a pull request URL when sending code to review. A window opens showing “From → To”; fill in what is asked and click Confirm. The comment is saved on the Step for whoever picks it up next.
Edit a Step
The holder, or the General and King, can change the title, description, acceptance criteria, tags, effort, complexity and due date. Click a field in the Step details to edit it. Editing stops once the Step reaches a Done status. To change the step type, see Change the step type.
Log your time
Time on a Step comes from the battle timer or from Time spent on the Step’s row. See Time tracking.
Archive a Step
Admins and Super Admins can archive a Step with the archive icon in the Step details. It is removed from the board and every list, along with its files; its history, comments and activity are kept.
Restore an archived Step
The same people see an Archived button on the Step Workspace toolbar. It lists the Quest’s archived Steps, with who archived each and when, and the status it will return to. Click Restore to put a Step back on the board where it left off.
