The Step Workspace

The Quest board where Steps move through phases.

Once a Quest is approved and started, its work happens in Steps: individual pieces of work that Heroes pick up, move along a workflow, and finish. Steps live on the Quest’s Step Workspace, under the Steps tab.

The workspace is locked until the Quest is approved and started: “The Quest must be approved and started before its inherited Game Board becomes available for Step execution.”

How the board is laid out

The board comes from the Game Board assigned to the Quest’s Adventure (the subtitle reads “{board} · inherited from {source}”).

  • Columns are phases. The default board has four: Mobilization (to do), On the Mission (in progress), Under Siege (blocked), and Victory (done).
  • Lanes are step types. Inside each column, each step type (Development, Design, Testing, PM…) has its own lane.
  • A Step sits in the column of its current workflow status. An Unmapped column catches any card whose phase is no longer on the board.

You can drag a card to another column when that move is allowed.

The board refreshes itself every 10 seconds while it is open in your browser tab, so moves other Heroes make show up without a reload.

Step keys

Every Step gets a key such as MAD-1-09: the Adventure key, the Quest number, and the Step’s number. Numbers are counted across the whole Adventure, so keys are unique within it. Click a key in the Step details to copy it.

Step addresses

Quests and Steps are addressed by their keys, as in Jira:

AddressOpens
/quests/QST-12The Quest.
/quests/QST-12/steps/PAY-12-03The Step’s details, over its Quest’s board. Board filters are kept in the address.
/browse/PAY-12-03A short link to the same Step. Copy link to this Step copies this form.

Older links that use ids still work; the address is rewritten to the keys when the page opens.
